Yangmingshan National Park Prohibits all River Trekking Activities within Its Administration

The primary purposes for the establishment of a national park are ecological preservation and water conservation. Recently, Yangmingshan National Park Headquarters have received case reports from citizens that some outdoor trekking companies are conducting river trekking activities at Masu River and Toucian River, which are within the administration of Yangmingshan National Park. Such activities are illegal and we call on tourists not to participate in these activities!

Besides having rich ecological environment in its forests, meadows and wetlands, Yangmingshan National Park also has versatile river ecology. Not only do various species of fish, amphibians, reptiles, crustaceans and other aquatic animals live in it, it is also the environment in which countless species rely on to survive. River trekking activities will interrupt and cause negative impact on the ecological environment of the rivers. In recent years, given climate change resulting from global warming, sudden rainstorms often cause flash floods, thus making riverside activities extremely dangerous and hard to conduct rescue operations given their complicated geographical features.

Yangmingshan National Park Headquarters once again reminds visitors that river trekking activities are prohibited within its administration! We call on all citizens to work together in order to preserve the precious resources in it for sustainable usage.
