Rhythmic splashes of old watermills in the salt fields and the singing of Black-faced Spoonbills that punctually appear every winter have orchestrated one after another symphony of water and birds. As Qigu Lagoon has been upgraded to Taijiang National Park (TJNP), it almost becomes my backyard and urges me to record another track of beautiful sounds of Taiwan living in my memory.

One cannot talk about the publications of Taiwan’s national parks without mentioning Cing-fen Pan. With her simple short hair and wide eyes, Pan is a modern beauty. Her calligraphic style is diverse, though; it can not only show the majesty of Mt. Jade and the depth of Taroko Gorge, but can also present the delicacy of Yangmingshan.

Sitting behind a heavy iron gate, “Huo's Studio” is permeated with the sound of an ancient Chinese stringed instrument and an air of tranquil elegance—a marked contrast to the hustle of the city outside. Its owner, a short-haired slim lady, is no other than Rong-ling Huo, the renowned Taiwanese senior art designer.
