Raptors Approaching! National Nature Park Headquarters to Hold an Eagle-Watching Event at Mount Banping

In collaboration with the Kaohsiung Wild Bird Society, the National Nature Park Headquarters will hold a promotional event for Mount Banping migrating raptors at the Mount Banping observation deck on October 23, 2021, from 09:00 am to 16:00 pm. Senior lecturers from the Kaohsiung Wild Bird Society will be leading the public on an outdoors “wild bird chase” this autumn season.

The Facebook page of Shoushan National Nature Park will be holding an online raptor identification seminar on October 16, 2021 at 10:00 am. Cheng Cheng-Ching, a senior birder from the Kaohsiung Wild Bird Society, will be introducing the common raptors of Mount Banping and how to identify them.

The National Nature Park Headquarters collaborated with the Kaohsiung Wild Bird Society to conduct a survey on the number of migrating raptors at the Mount Banping observation deck from late September to early November. The Kaohsiung Wild Bird Society has long been carrying out surveys at Mount Banping, and has recorded 22 species of raptors. These include resident birds such as great crested serpent eagles, crested goshawks, and besra sparrowhawks, as well as migratory gray-faced buzzards, Chinese sparrowhawks, and common kestrels, etc. The results of this year’s survey will be presented at the Conservation and Research Presentation for the 10th anniversary of the opening of Shoushan National Nature Park in December.
