“Secret Cape - Decoding Geographical Names and Landmarks” - Interpreting the Names of Places in the Southern Penghu Islands

The new book “Secret Cape - Decoding Geographical Names and Landmarks” will be published in October 2018. We invite members of the public who care about the South Penghu Marine National Park to come and learn about this youngest national park and seek the origin of names for the destinations on the four islands.

“Secret Cape - Decoding Geographical Names and Landmarks” is a new book published by the Marine National Park Headquarters in order to unveil the mysteries of the South Penghu islands. Full of passion and fearless determination, the author visited every corner of the islands, even when the grass was long and the path was gone, even through the cold and wet winter nights. Each step he took was to uncover the names of the places and landmarks, to tell the readers about the meaning and stories behind each name. In addition to the wonderful text, images, and hand-drawn sketches, voice files on the pronunciation of the names of places by the local have also been recorded. QR Codes have been included in the book; readers can simply use their mobile phone to scan the codes and hear original pronunciations in the Penghu dialect.
