2019 Yangmingshan Winter Firefly Ecosystem Observation Camp

Taiwan is an island with an abundance of fireflies. In addition to spring and summer, many fireflies can also be observed in autumn and winter. We call these “autumn fireflies” and “winter fireflies.” Fireflies found in autumn and winter are different species than those seen in spring and summer. The species are mainly from four genera: Pyrocoelia analis, Diaphanas flavilateralis, Lamprigera yunnana Fairmaire, and Stenocladius bicoloripes.

Yangmingshan National Park hopes that more people can come to the park and learn about autumn and winter fireflies. That is why two camping sessions for the “2019 Yangmingshan Winter Firefly Ecosystem Observation Camp” are held on November 2 and 3. The course content includes: basic classification of fireflies, introduction to the winter firefly, and outdoor nighttime observation of firefly. Anyone who is interested in ecological firefly observation are welcome to come and participate.
