World's first tropical octocoral field guide: Octocoral Fauna of Dongsha Atoll

This year, the Marine National Park Headquarters (MNPHQ) issued the world's first tropical octocoral field guide. The book not only provides a reference for identifying octocoral species, but also features abundant photos of octocoral ecology. These make it the first choice for anyone wanting to learn about these beautiful marine organisms.

MNPHQ is very fortunate to have been able to complete this difficult task with the help of Professor Dai Chang-Feng from the National Taiwan University Institute of Oceanography. This field guide was created through Professor Dai's over three decades of experience researching coral organisms and ecosystems. For two years, the research team searched for all signs of octocorals in the greater Dongsha Atoll seas, and found 119 species. This has given us the opportunity to better understand these organisms, and has laid a deep and important foundation for future research.   Publications
