“2023 Wetland Research Seminar and the 5th Taiwan Wetland Research Camp” Brings New Energy into Taiwan’s Wetland Conservation Initiatives

The NPS hosted the “2023 Wetland Research Seminar and the 5th Taiwan Wetland Research Camp” at the Chinese Culture University on November 6-8, and invited the Society of Wetland Scientists (SWS) to jointly participate in the opening ceremony. The international exchange activities for wetland conservation have entered their 13th year. The theme of this year’s wetland research seminar is on “Conservation Research and Local Management Practices of Coastal Estuarine Wetlands.” The Wetland Research Camp focused on the Xucuogang Wetlands in Taoyuan, exploring the environmental threats faced by coastal and estuarine wetlands.

Professor Ben LePage, former president of SWS, was invited to speak on the topic of “Exploring Estuarine Wetland Ecological Monitoring and Restoration,” allowing the participants to share their knowledge and experience with experts and scholars. This will help to promote the public’s understanding and thoughts on wetland ecological conservation and environmentally sustainable management, as well as promote the future of Taiwan’s wetland management, policy, and practice.
