Kenting’s “Hawks” Returned Again, Over 200 Thousand Chinese Sparrowhawks have Migrated through Kenting after a Hiatus of 12 Years

 

 

Kenting National Park Management Office has commissioned the Raptor Research Group of Taiwan to conduct the “2017 ‘Kenting National Park Autumn Transit Raptor Population Investigation and Chinese Sparrowhawk Migration Satellite Tracking Program’“ to record the quantity, species, and migration environment data during the main autumn raptor migration period for Chinese Sparrowhawks, Grey-faced Buzzards, Ospreys, etc.

Based on the records collected from September 1, 2017 to September 25, 2017; the quantity of migratory Chinese Sparrowhawks counted was 203,288. This is the first time that the number has exceeded 200 thousand since 221,615 was counted in autumn of 2004. The peak single day numbers of 70,018 and 54,442 were recorded on September 16 and September 21, respectively.
