Yushan Asteroid is the first asteroid named after one of the Taiwan high mountains

Yushan Asteroid is the first asteroid which named after one of the Taiwan high mountains. The Yushan Asteroid also represents"Yushan" from Taiwan to participate in New7Wonders of nature campaign.

National Central University (NCU) has established an Observatory on Lulin Front Mountain in Yushan National Park (YSNP). Since 2002, the Observatory has found nearly 800 asteroids, and some of them also gained the naming rights from international formal naming convention. In order to manifest the outstanding international astronomy research capabilities of Taiwan, and demonstrate the magnificent landmark and holly spirit symbol of Taiwan , "Yushan" is named for a new-discovered asteroid by Lulin Observatory.

Lulin Observatory of NCU has replied the asking from YSNP, officially applied and named “Yushan” to the asteroid which is No. 185546 and discovered on December 28, 2007. This naming has been approved by Committee for Small Body Nomenclature (CSBN) of International Astronomical Union (IAU).  Yushan Asteroid is the first asteroid which named after one of the Taiwan high mountains. The Yushan Asteroid also represents “Yushan” from Taiwan to participate in New7Wonders of Nature campaign, to be well-known on global stage and be immortal in boundless universe.
