Cihu Triangle Fortress Cormorant Ecotour Starts Nov 17

The cormorant is a distinctive winter visitor in Kinmen. The birds start to arrive in October each year and spend winter in Kinmen, reaching peak population of over 10 thousand around January, the largest wintering population of cormorants in East Asia. Their main habitats in Kinmen include Cihu, Yangming Lake, Lingshui Lake and others. Cihu is the largest among the night roosting sites. At sunset each day, tens of thousands of cormorants fly back to their nests in an orderly V-formation or line, becoming one of the most important ecological sighting highlights in Kinmen.

In order to provide more visitors with ecological information on cormorants and promote the correct ethics and approaches toward bird watching, Kinmen National Park commissioned the Wild Bird Society of Kinmen to lead cormorant ecotours at the Cihu Triangle Fortress from 3-6 PM every Saturday and Sunday from November 17 to December 30. All are welcome to come and appreciate the magnificent return of the cormorants to their nests at Cihu Triangle Fortress.
