Protecting Marine Resources, Illegal Fishing Activities Strictly Prohibited

To protect the integrity and diversity of the South Penghu Marine National Park marine ecosystem and ensure the sustainable development of marine resources, one of the primary tasks of the Marine National Park Headquarters is to stop illegal fishing activities through regular patrols. For example, gillnets are used to catch different target fish species by varying the mesh size of the net, so when multi-layer gillnets are deployed under the surface of the sea, almost all marine organisms of all sizes will be inescapably caught. Therefore, the use of multi-layer gillnets has been prohibited within 12 nautical miles of the shore in the waters of Penghu County since 2002.

The Marine National Park Headquarters continues to work toward maintaining the coastal environment, restoring benthic habitats, conducting scientific surveys and research, and ensuring the appropriate behavior of fisheries and recreational activities by implementing regulated perimeters paired with active and effective management, thereby creating a rich and beautiful marine ecological environment in the waters of South Penghu.
