Special Screening of Basalt Documentary, Penghu County Government and the Marine National Park Headquarters to Jointly Protect Precious Habitats

To convey the importance of habitat conservation, the Marine National Park Headquarters commissioned a professional team to film the documentary Rock/Time: Basalt and Bountiful Life in the South Penghu. It describes the unique natural and cultural landscape of the South Penghu Marine National Park from the perspective of basalt rocks, and explores how human beings and the natural ecosystem have established a close interaction with the rocks bit by bit over a long period of time and have shaped and depended on each other. In addition to the bountiful ecosystems, the documentary shows the water spraying from the “stove” on Xiji Island, otherwise known as the “Blue Cave.” There are also rare scenes of terns raising their chicks, and an animation showing the pioneers crossing the Taiwan Strait, providing a rich narrative of the story of humans and the rocks.

The Marine National Park Headquarters hopes that the public can see the preciousness of the basalt habitat and support the conservation work of the national park. It will also continue to cooperate with the Penghu County Government to promote the concept of ecological conservation and jointly protect the South Penghu Marine National Park.
