Dadu Mountain of Taichung has unique geological feature or red gravel layers resulting in natural phenomenon such drought, water shortage, soil infertility and others. Although it was not appropriate for agricultural activities in the early days, its unique geographical environment developed into the unique culture and history of “the red knuckle” with the Metropolitan Park acting like a sparkling emerald that is both charming and glamorous.

In order for citizens to further understand the unique natural geological features and the culture & history of Dadu Mountain, Taichung Metropolitan Park has put into effort in organizing the series event of Protecting Dadu Mountain. This year’s event will be a two-day event that will take place at Taichung Metropolitan Park on Apr. 15th (Sat.) and 16th (Sun.), 2017.

The family activity of “Let’s Ride a Bike in Dadu Mountain in Spring” will begin at 09:00 AM of Apr. 15th (Sat.). It is an activity in which parents have to lead children in completing stages by riding on bicycles.

As for the stage at Taichung Metropolitan Park, environmental education lecturers and volunteer guides from the park will lead parents and children in reading the illustrated book of “Riding a Bike in Dadu Mountain in Spring”. By allowing children to read with their parents, it allows children of all ages to browse through the natural landscapes and local customs of Dadu Mountain through the pages of the illustrated book. At the same time, it also encourages families to collect natural materials and complete handcraft creations filled with love hand in hand.

Besides interesting handcraft courses, stages will also be set at Chio-Tian Folk Art Park. Besides introducing folk arts and skills, it will also teach families drumming and arouse their belief in revering the heaven and land through the reflective tempo of drums.

On Apr. 16th (Sun.), which is the second day of the event, Taichung Metropolitan Park has planned an easy trip at local communities filled with cultural context targeting friends above the age of 18.

The first stop is Liquan Community. With its geographical advantage of bearing powerful sea breezes, under the collaboration of experts and local residents, they have build the one and only eco-friendly windmill to construct the image of “Windmill Town”. The Sugar Cane Artifacts Cultural Exhibition Hall in the community has preserved artifacts that contain cultural warmth, such as winnowing machine, rammed earth bricks, and planting and spading equipment which illustrate the wisdom of early day agricultural life.

After enjoying a lunch with local flavors, the event will take participants to Zhongyi Community in the afternoon. This place used to be a military post and has preserved national defense facilities that have great historical meaning. Each old building has the tracks of time. With the progress of time and the aggressive input of creative efforts and imaginations by young friends, it has rid itself of the military atmosphere in its past days and have added spirited atmosphere of daily life into this place.
